  • Naftifine


    Naftifine, an antifungal drug, is approved to treat athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), but may also be effective against jock itch and ringworm. Naftifine is a synthetic allylamine antifungal agent. The exact mechanism of action against fungi is not known. Naftifine appears to interfere with sterol biosynthesis by inhibiting 2, 3 epoxidase resulting in a decrease in the amount of sterols, especially ergosterol and accumulation of squalene in the fungal cells.

  • Crisaborole


    Crisaborole is indicated for the treatment of atopic dermatitis. Crisaborole is a phosphodiesterase 4 inhibitor that increases cyclic adenosine monophosphate in the cell.   • Econazole Nitrate


    Econazole nitrate is a broad spectrum antimycotic indicated for topical treatment of several dermatologic infections including mycotic vulvovaginitis, mycotic balanitis, athlete’s foot (tinea pedis), jock itch (tinea cruris), and ringworm (tinea corporis) caused by Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, Trichophyton tonsurans, Microsporum canis, Microsporum audouini, Microsporum gypseum, and Epidermophyton floccosum, in the treatment of cutaneous candidiasis and tinea versicolor. Econazole interacts with 14-α demethylase, a cytochrome P-450 enzyme necessary to convert lanosterol to ergosterol. As ergosterol is an essential component of the fungal cell membrane, inhibition of its synthesis results in increased cellular permeability causing leakage of cellular contents. Econazole may also inhibit endogenous respiration, interact with membrane phospholipids, inhibit the transformation of yeasts to mycelial forms, inhibit purine uptake, and impair triglyceride and/or phospholipid biosynthesis.

  • Butenafine Hydrochloride


    Butenafine hydrochloride is an antifungal, over the counter drug (OTC) indicated for topical treatment of several dermatologic infections including tinea (pityriasis) versicolor due to M. furfur, athlete’s foot, ringworm and jock itch due to E. floccosum, T. mentagrophytes, T. rubrum, and T. tonsurans, respectively. Butenafine hydrochloride mechanism of action has not been fully established; however, it has been suggested that butenafine interferes with sterol biosynthesis, particularly ergosterol, by inhibiting squalene monooxygenase, an enzyme responsible for converting squalene to 2,3-oxydo squalene. Ergosterol is an essential component of the fungal cell membrane and inhibition of its synthesis results in increased cellular permeability causing leakage of cellular contents. Blockage of squalene monooxygenase also leads to a subsequent accumulation of squalene. When a high concentration of squalene is reached, it is thought to have fungicidal activity, directly killing fungal cells.
